HPAI in California — imports of poultry, poultry meat and table eggs from the state banned

According to Korea's Animal and Plant Quarantine Agency (APQA), the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs has banned imports of poultry products from California following an outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) in the state. The ban is based on Korea's import health requirements for US poultry, hatching eggs and day-old chicks, for US poultry meat and poultry products, and for US table eggs.

● Scope: poultry (including live birds, hatching eggs and day-old chicks), poultry meat and table eggs from California shipped on or after Oct 29, 2026 (local time) ● Shipped on or before Oct 28: live poultry pass after quarantine holding if clinical and HPAI antigen tests are clear; poultry meat and table eggs face stricter physical inspection and further testing if needed ● Exempt: heat-treated poultry meat under the import health requirements, and items confirmed under Korea's sterilization and processing standards for designated quarantine goods

As of Oct 30, twelve US states are under a ban on poultry, poultry meat and table eggs: California, Nebraska, North Dakota, Minnesota, South Dakota, Idaho, Iowa, Washington, Wisconsin, Indiana, Illinois and Kansas. If you are preparing US poultry shipments, check the state of production and the shipment date first.
