Transpacific spot rates fall 5–6% in a week — Shanghai–Los Angeles at $7,514 per 40ft, Drewry sees further declines

Drewry's World Container Index (WCI) composite, published on October 29, fell 3% week on week to $4,429 per 40ft container. The decline was led by the transpacific trade.
● Shanghai → Los Angeles: $7,514 (-6%) ● Shanghai → New York: $9,631 (-5%) ● Shanghai → Rotterdam: $3,686 (+1%) ● Shanghai → Genoa: $4,151 (unchanged)
Drewry expects transpacific rates to decrease again next week and Asia–Europe rates to remain stable. Spot rates to the US are easing as year-end peak volumes pass their high point, although the US East Coast (New York) is still more than $2,000 above the West Coast (Los Angeles).
Spot rates can move sharply from week to week, so if you have US-bound exports planned, check the validity of your quotation together with the shipping date. Drewry updates the index every Thursday.
