China–Korea ocean rates climb 4.4% in the fourth week of October

In the China Containerized Freight Index (CCFI) published by the Shanghai Shipping Exchange on October 23, the Korea service stood at 800.86, up 4.4% from 767.31 a week earlier (October 16). The composite index fell 2.4% to 1,876.27 the same day, and the US West Coast (-4.2%) and Southeast Asia (-3.0%) services also softened, while the Korea and Japan (+2.5%) services moved higher.

The SCFI composite, which tracks departures from Shanghai only, edged up for a third straight week to 3,681.34, close to its September high of 3,687.83. According to the Korean outlet Newsway, route disruptions linked to Middle East tensions and carriers' capacity adjustments are holding rates up.

With shipments picking up again after China's National Day holiday (October 1–7), we recommend confirming space and rates for China-origin imports one to two weeks before sailing until early November. Index figures are market averages; actual rates vary by carrier, port of loading and volume.
